Supporting tens of thousands of local people to move more

Greenwich Get Active was a behaviour change-led programme we developed for NHS Greenwich on the back of the London Olympics to help mobilise the local Greenwich community to be more active.

Drawing on a comprehensive planning phase involving primary research and segmentation analysis, programme delivery involved:

  • A campaign with audience-specific elements to encourage change and stimulate interest in/trial of local physical activity opportunities
  • A comprehensive online directory of local physical activity opportunities, linked to SMG's bespoke behaviour change customer relationship management (CRM) system
  • A dedicated community team to engage with people directly via a borough-wide roadshow programme and other events, handle helpline and website enquiries, and offer ongoing encouragement and support
  • Incentives and rewards for participation

In the first year alone, the Greenwich Get Active Advisor team made over 30,000 brief interventions and over 3,000 local people registered/signed up for ongoing programme support.
