Behavioural insights training and coaching for the Equality and Human Rights Commission

Equality and Human Rights Commission
Training

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) commissioned training and coaching to support their teams' behavioural insights knowledge. They needed practical tools to ensure that interventions are built with behaviour change in mind.

Because we were working with different teams on a wide variety of projects, we ensured to develop training that could be easily transferrable. Our work consisted of both Methods and Tools training and coaching sessions for specific teams that addressed:

  • How behaviour change relates to specific roles within EHRC
  • Introduction to behavioural insights
  • Levers for change
  • Gathering and using insight
  • Evaluation and impact pathway planning
  • Logic models
  • Identifiying live challenges

The coaching sessions then served as opportunities to apply their learnings directly to a specific role or project. These were bespoke to each group and gave opportunities to apply the skills directly onto real-world projects they were working on. The project teams found it useful to explore:

  • The behaviours that have had the most impact on their project goals
  • Techniques to specify target audiences
  • How to conduct a COM-B analysis
  • The range of behaviour change levers available for intervention design

Participants gave great feedback about the combined training and coaching package. In particular, they liked our help in adapting behaviour change tools to meet their needs, and the opportunity to work with SMG Learning on their projects.
