As part of NHS24’s Scottish Centre for Telehealth and Telecare Smartcare programme we developed FallsAssistant - a web app to support those at risk of falling and their carers to assess risk and find appropriate support.
We established a service user group comprising a number of older people at risk of falling, carers, and NHS physiotherapists to scope, co-design, and test the application. Alongside this we ran a series of workshops with other key stakeholders (policy leads and health practitioners) to assess the user feedback and shape the delivery / implementation approach.
Much of the work sought to identify how best to use the digital technology to engage and give access for older people to the falls support available. This involved considering and adopting a virtual support pathway, plus a gamification element (pairs and spot the hazard) to grab attention and facilitate learning.
