Successfully addressing social work recruitment and retention challenges in Yorkshire & The Humber

Children Social Work Matters is a campaign across Yorkshire and The Humber to promote the value and success of children’s social work, and facilitate collaboration and learning across the 15 local authorities in the region. SMG has helped develop and support all aspects of the programme for over 10 years.   

Our delivery is wide-ranging and includes the strategic direction of the programme, an intuitive online platform, a bi-annual conference, extensive content creation including written and video case studies, expert speaker webinars, stakeholder events, and a range of digital and social marketing activities.

In the last ten years this has resulted in delivery of 6 conferences, 75+ webinars, 30+ stakeholder events, 3 ongoing campaigns, the fulfilment of over 2,500 children’s social work job vacancies, and 700,000+ website visitors.

The programme has achieved its primary aim, recruiting and retaining permanent social work staff – rather than relying on agency workers – at a rate above the national average.
